Written by: Dahliah Bte Kamal

SINGAPORE- Located at the eastern end of Singapore, this man-made beach of leisure and relaxation is one of the most visited parks by locals and foreigners.

With 185 hectares of land, East Coast Park is the largest park in Singapore, and it serves many purposes to the public. Some of which includes barbecue pits, overnight camping, chalets, food centres and amenities for sports activities – cyling, inline skating and water skiing.

“I like the atmosphere here and I mostly enjoy going cycling with my friend twice or thrice every month,” said a 16 year-old cycling enthusiast, Xavier Tan, who was resting on a bench with his friend by the sea.

This scenic beach has over 7.5 million visits a year. Who wouldn’t enjoy a weekend fun filled with bonding activities with your loved ones? A good time to unwind, chill and relax by the shoreline with swaying coconut plants and perennial sea breeze that will only give you invigorating relief.

East Coast Park also offers a wide variety of food ranging from delicious seafood to finger licking good barbecue chicken. In Area D, you will be able to find East Coast Seafood Centre and East Coast Lagoon Centre that can satisfy your cravings.

It is one of the most popular dining spot for tourists and locals alike since it first started and had their renovation in 2005. If you’re interested to try out the good food there, be sure to “chope a seat” earlier as it is always very crowded, especially in the evening.

When interviewed, Kylie Hall, an Australian lady who’ve stayed in Singapore for 21 years said, “Where do I usually eat? Well, Lagoon at the far end is my favourite place to eat! I enjoy the atmosphere here too as I live nearby, I will come here often and de-stress.”

Walking along the pathway, you’ll see a long stretch of barbecue pits, usually filled with people in the evening. With over 80 pits available for rental across the entire park, you can book from the National Parks Board via AXS within an affordable price of $12-$20 SGD.

“I came here to hold a birthday party for my sister. All of my family members and relatives are going to be here celebrating it together!”

When asked on why she chose East Coast Park as her choice of venue, 30-year-old bar manager, Ashwini Rauendran, replied, “I like the view here and the atmosphere is really nice. Apart from that, it is open space. It’s much more fun.”

If you are interested to visit East Coast Park, you can take bus 401, 196 or 197 from Bedok Interchange (nearest MRT Station). It is located nearby Parkway Parade with an underpass that leads straight to the park Area C. Be sure to have this ticked off your checklist if you’re looking for a place to chill and have fun with your family and friends.
