A Star Wars Movie Review by: Dahliah Bte Kamal

After 30 years since the last blockbuster hit film, “Return of The Jedi”, J.J Abrams made a comeback with The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the Star Wars saga and the first in the Star Wars sequel trilogy released in 2015.

Receiving over $3 billion worldwide, this movie has captured many hearts of the Star Wars fans all the way back from 1977 when A New Hope was first released. A New Hope was the first film of the Star Wars Saga and since then gathered a community of fans.

The Force Awakens is a mixture of action, thrill and a touch of comedy where they were on a mission to search for Luke Skywalker- the last Jedi. With a combination of old and new actors, the movie has successfully satisfied Star Wars fans who have waited years for this new episode. After so long, it still has that sci-fi classic element to it.

Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, was abandoned by her family and lived in the desert as a scavenging for parts and selling them for survival. On the other hand, Finn, portrayed by John Boyega, was brought up as a Stormtrooper with only one skill – to kill.

He betrayed the First Order, always ruled by Kylo Ren, and met with Rey to fulfil the mission of finding the Last Jedi. In between, there were appearances of the original Han Solo and Princess Leia which brings out the original vibes of Star Wars back in the 70s.

The movie has brought satisfaction not only to the older fans aged 70 and above but also to adolescents aged 12 and below! It is packed with utmost quality of graphics. In addition, that hint of humour freshens up everything. As compared to the previous Star Wars movies, this episode is more of a subtle action and minimal effects due to limited technology usage during that period of time.

However, now, with no excuse of not using modern age technology to its limit, the quality and effects definitely bring justice to the movie and gives it a more individual effect to each audience member.

I feel that the movie has stayed consistent with its quality of genre as Sci-Fi. As a Star Wars fan myself, I genuinely liked and enjoyed the movie. I shall give it a rating of 8.5/10 because I feel that the fighting scene with lightsabers was very minimal. Instead, it focused more on the emotional side between Han Solo and Kylo Ren.

For a Star Wars movie to be great, appealing visuals are not enough. This movie has a classic riff on the eternal struggle between the sides of light and dark (good vs evil), and that is what makes it amazing.

Imagine listening to the extravagant sound effects of the spaceship flying across the galaxy and watching the glowing lightsabers swooshing around with great effects on the big screen. It definitely brings the chills!
